After while, she smile up at me, say, “How old are you?”
Her eyes get real wide. I might as well be a thousand. pg. 283
My Lady Jane
“Armies aren’t very good about carrying libraries with them. I can’t imagine why. We’d fight so much less if everyone would just sit down and read.” pg. 427
The Girl Who Drank the Moon
She was eleven, after all. She was both even and odd. She was ready to be many things at once-child, grown-up, poet, engineer, botanist, dragon. pg. 133
“We are going on a journey.”
“A real journey?” Fyrain said. “You mean, away from here?” pg. 237
“Hello?” said Kai.
Her heart thumped-every single time, her heart thumped. pg. 34
His gaze darted to the side. “Twenty-four.”
Cress gaped. Twenty-four girls. She didn’t even know twenty-four people.
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Because I need you to know I never meant it. I said it because I thought that’s what you’re supposed to say, but it didn’t mean anything. And it’s different with you. This is the first time I’ve been scared. Scared you’ll change your mind. Scared I’ll screw it up. Aces, Cress, I’m terrified of you.” pg. 800
LOG ENTRY: SOL 381 I’ve been thinking about laws on Mars.
Yeah, I know, it’s a stupid thing to think about, but I have a lot of free time.
There’s an international treaty saying no country can lay claim to anything that’s not on Earth. And by another treaty, if you’re not in any country’s territory, maritime law applies.
So Mars is “international waters.”
NASA is an American nonmilitary organization, and it owns the Hab. So while I’m in the Hab, American law applies. As soon as I step outside, I’m in international waters. Then when I get in the rover, I’m back to American law.
Here’s the cool part: I will eventually go to Schiaparelli and commandeer the Ares 4lander. Nobody explicitly gave me permission to do this, and they can’t until I’m aboard Ares 4 and operating the comm system. After I board Ares 4, before talking to NASA, I will take control of a craft in international waters without permission.
That makes me a pirate!
A space pirate!
I got my homecoming dress today! It was fifty-nine bucks at Nordstrom Rack, but it’s actually from Madewell and might have been over a hundred dollars before. We also decided on the hoco dress-up days. At my school, each day of the week before hoco is themed. I think they’re amazing. We have Tie Die with a Tie Day, Pool Day, Fashion Disaster Day, Country Club vs. Country Day, and Marvel Day. AKA I get to WEAR A CAPE!!! The actual dance’s theme is City Lights.
